Why
Why healing conversations?
Listening without judging, rescuing or fixing is the best kind of gift we can give each other. Often, our communication is hijacked by old patterns, blurry boundaries and fear of discomfort. The Walk & Talk program supports participants to share and witness each other’s stories without fixing or advice-giving.
Why walk?
There is a huge body of research that links regular physical exercise with general wellbeing. Studies suggest that people who are more physically active are less likely to be depressed, have lower levels of anxiety and cope better with stress.
Exercise is also connected with increases in vigour, energy, tranquillity and feelings of revitalisation.
Why group sessions?
Participants practise these skills within the group sessions and apply them while walking with their Walk & Talk buddies. The group meets weekly for eight weeks and members are encouraged to Walk & Talk between sessions.
Over time, group members form new habits around regular exercise and ways of communicating. They also build up a network of buddies who know the program. Other relationships benefit too.
Why do I need buddies?
In theory, walking is accessible and easy. The number one hurdle is getting out the door. This is made even harder if you are feeling depressed or anxious or simply find it difficult to stick to a routine. That’s why you need support. Together we can do what is so difficult to do alone.
